The relationship between cats and birds is never a stable one. Usually, it’s the bird who’s scared of the cat – and rightly so, as there’s a pretty good chance of the cat trying to use them as a chew toy. But every so often, the roles get reversed, and that’s exactly the case in this next video. In all fairness, the cat in this video is actually a kitten, so he can be forgiven for being a little cautious. Just wait until he gets a bit older!
Luckily, both cat and bird get off unscathed, and the stand off between the pair makes for a hilarious video!
After the confident bird attempted to befriend the cat, the comical video was posted onto YouTube for us all to see, and we knew that we’d have to share it with you.
The video was shared onto YouTube by Rumble Viral, along with the caption:
“This Indian Ringneck parrot tries his best to befriend an adorable kitten, but the little guy won’t let his guard down. We all know it simply takes time to build up friendships!”
Thanks to the cat’s hilarious reaction (and of course the sheer irony of the situation,) the video now has over 800,000 views, as well as thousands of likes and comments.
Parrots are known for their confidence and cheeky personalities, but this is one of the bravest parrots we’ve ever seen! At the beginning of the clip, the bold bird and the kitten seem to be having a standoff.
The pair are both staring at each other without moving – until the parrot bravely decides that this is a time to make friends. Hilariously, as he steps forward to introduce himself to the cat, the scared kitten begins to bat his head with his paw – something that the parrot doesn’t take too well to.
But the parrot refuses to be deterred, and after letting the cat calm down, he once again approaches, whilst tweeting to the cat in the hope that the pair can build up some communication.
But still, the cat is having none of it. Through either fear or predatory instincts, each time the parrot tries to get close, the cat extends his front paw and begins hitting him on the head. Poor little guy!
This goes on for a few minutes as the pair circle each other.
It’s like a really odd boxing match where only one person is happy to take part! Despite being smaller than the kitten, the parrot manages to corner him inside a bush, and with that, the match is over. We don’t know if the parrot was wild or somebody’s pet, but we hope that he managed to get away safely after the video!
People took to the comments to express their love for the video, with one person saying:

What a great point! Wouldn’t it be amazing if the parrot and kitten became best friends as they both grew up?
