Leopards aren’t just majestic animals; they are also one of the strongest in the wild. They could efficiently climb trees while holding their prey. They do this to ensure that other animals won’t get their meal.
But no matter how great these big cats are, they are capable of nurturing and loving their offspring.
Newborn leopard cubs are weak and vulnerable. They rely solely on the protection of their mother. The mother leopard will need to take care of her young until they are old enough to fend for themselves.
So imagine the surprise of local sugarcane farmers when they saw three tiny leopards in the Umbraj village. The village is in the Otur forest range of Junnar division.
The farmers were getting ready to harvest their sugarcanes when they saw a glimpse of the tiny leopards. Because the leopards were so tiny and vulnerable, the farmers immediately called backup and rescuers.
Soon, forest officers and a team from Wildlife SOS came to the location.
The tiny leopards were so beautiful but visibly stressed and hungry. The heat from the sun and the people gathering around are making the cubs nervous.
The Maharashtra Forest Department and Wildlife SOS led the rescue of the cubs.
Once the team rescued the cubs, a member of the Wildlife SOS, a veterinary doctor, Dr. Nikhil Bangar, examined their health condition.
Dr. Banger confirmed that the cubs were about 45-days-old and they were healthy. There was one female and two males.
“Reuniting cubs that have been separated from their mothers is very important at such a crucial stage, as leopard mothers turn very aggressive out of sheer distress, thus inviting an incident of direct conflict,” Dr. Banger told India Today.
After the check-up, the WildlifeSOS team arranged for the cubs to be reunited with their mother. The first step was to bring them back where the mother had left them.
They put the cubs in a box filled with holes. The box had a cover so that they won’t escape and go too far. The team also set up cameras to monitor the reunion.
In the clip from the remote-controlled cameras, you will see the mother leopard approaching her cubs at around midnight. She smelled the box and approached it as she confirmed that they were her babies.
The mother leopard slowly knocked down the box that freed her cubs. One by one, the loving mother took them to a safer location.
Seeing this clip will melt your heart. You can see how caring the mother leopard was.
Mother Nature is indeed beautiful, and the life of animals never fails to amaze us in so many ways. Of course, a mother’s love for her babies is one of the most captivating sights to see.
It was a good thing that the farmers were able to see the cubs and that they were all in good health.
We’re so happy to see the mom leopard finally reunited with her cubs. She must have been so worried for her babies.
