Nobody likes a bully and there is something about human nature that just loves a good underdog story. Even in the animal kingdom, there are some stories that make you want to cheer. Whenever the little guy overcomes, we all feel a bit happier and know that there is good in the world. One story follows the life of a little piglet who gets picked on so much that he hangs out with geese. A true David and Goliath story!
The runt of the litter.
A runt is a weaker and smaller member of a litter. Whenever we see one of these little guys, our hearts can’t help but go out to them! They are often rejected by their families and don’t have a chance to make it except for human intervention.
In a group of animals (usually a litter of animals born in multiple births), a runt is a member which is significantly smaller or weaker than the others. Owing to its small size, a runt in a litter faces obvious disadvantage, including difficulties in competing with its siblings for survival and possible rejection by its mother. Therefore, in the wild, a runt is less likely to survive infancy.
Despite their disadvantage, runts will still make a life for themselves if given the chance.
One of the most famous pigs out there is Wilbur. Wilbur is the runt of the litter in the classic American book, Charlotte’s Web. While the story of Charlotte’s Web isn’t a real one, there is something close to it!
This piglet was the runt of the litter and had to make some new friends.
This piglet was born with some disadvantages in his life. Thankfully, he figured out a way to overcome them. When his family rejected him, he decided that he was going to find a new one. Settling in with a flock of geese, this piglet has decided to live as a bird.
Going through waterparks and obstacle courses, this pig really thinks he is a goose!
The little brown pig is quite the black sheep of the goose family. As the geese go about their daily activities of playing in the water and jumping around an obstacle course, the little pork chop does his best to keep up.
The geese don’t just tolerate him – they have accepted him as one of their own!
When it’s time for lunch, all the big pigs chase the little guy away from the food bowl. Thankfully, the piglet has a family who loves him. Instead of eating with the other pigs, he eats with the geese!
They act as bodyguards for him too!
When the piglet is eating, the bully pigs walked up to try and mess with him. Not while the geese are around! They nip and bite the bully pigs until they leave their friend alone. The geese really do love this little pig like he’s one of their own.
A family who cares.
This all goes to show something important. It isn’t necessarily the family you are born into, it’s the people who care about you. It seems like this little pig has realized that and found his circle. The next step for him is learning how to fly!
