A family in Colorado hailed a FedEx guy their hero after a very special delivery.

As pet owners, we can only imagine the pain when our pets wander off. We don’t know where they are, if they’re safe, or if they’ll ever come back.

This is an ordeal that a family from Castle Pines, Colorado had to endure. That is until a FedEx guy came along.

Liza Menzies was out of town when her dog decided to “escape”.

She shared with KDVR that her three-year-old golden retriever named Catcher, managed to slip out when the opportunity presented itself.

“We were getting some repairs done on the house,” Menzies told KDVR. “Our contractor left to go to lunch and shut the front door, and the wind blew the door open while I was gone, and Catcher escaped.”

Menzies feared for the worst.

“She could have wandered out to a busy road and you hate to think what’s going to happen then.” She said to the news outlet.

The episode was recorded by her doorbell camera. In the recording, you can see Catcher walking towards the road and then disappearing as she made a turn.

Luckily for Menzies, her big puppy won’t be alone for too long.

The curious puppy was found by a FedEx delivery personnel as he was making his usual rounds. That’s when Menzies got a message on her phone.

“He just said, ‘I found your dog, and the address on her tag is where I’m going to take her’ and then he put her in the house with such care.” She shared the driver’s message to the news outlet.

The footage then showed how the driver delivered Catcher back to Menzies.

In the footage, the FedEx truck was parked right outside her home. Then, the driver appeared with Catcher in his arms. They walked towards the front door where Catcher made his escape.

“Seeing him carry her into the house like that … in my head, I was thinking of the theme song from the Titanic,” she told KDVR. “He was taking such care and love with her that it was really amusing.”

Catcher was then placed in “maximum security”.

She shared that Catcher was now safe and sound and was being monitored so unsupervised excursions and adventures would be kept to a minimum.

According to the Humane Society, there are a lot of reasons why our dogs escape. Puppies or dogs under three years old are more likely to escape to use up their pent-up energy. Active breeds like herding or sporting dogs are also susceptible to escaping.

To help them calm down, owners can walk their dogs daily, keep their environments interesting, and spend enough time with them to reduce anxiety.

As for Menzies, she only has appreciation for the Good Samaritan.

“He interrupted his day and his package delivery schedule to pick her up and hand-carry her into our home and lock the door behind him. I don’t want to think about where else she could have ended up.” She said to the news outlet.

And while she regretted not getting his name, she insisted that he was her family’s hero.
