Aww!
Baby elephant gets busted eating sugarcane and tries his hardest to hide
What elephant? All we see is a pole!

To us, the thought of living in a country where it’s pretty common to stumble across a wild elephant absolutely blows our minds. Thailand is home to around 2,000 wild elephants, meaning that to the locals, it’s not that much of a big deal if they come across one.

Obviously, you’re not going to spot a wild elephant wandering the streets of Bangkok, and we’d take a guess that you’d have to be pretty far off the beaten track to come across one – but nevertheless, we still think it’s awesome.

Farmers are used to dealing with your regular pests that eat their crops, like insects and smaller mammals. But we’d have to admit, if we saw an elephant stealing some of our hard-grown produce, we think that we’d be in such awe that we’d just let them have it.

In Chiang Mai, North Thailand, a baby elephant was caught on camera committing this exact crime, and he tried to get away with it in the most hilarious way! The picture, which was posted onto Facebook by วีรวัฒน์ พรหมเมือง, shows the sneaky little guy right after he was caught red-handed.

The elephant had been having a secret munch on some sugarcane plants, but as he spotted a car full of locals approaching, he’d done the only thing he could think of at the moment – and hid.

Unfortunately for him, his hiding spot wasn’t the most thought-out.

In all fairness to the elephant, there weren’t many hiding spots around- but his choice to stand behind a tall, narrow pole probably wasn’t the best one.

However, the elephant appears to believe that he’s still hidden, and even as the locals shine a light directly onto him, he stands perfectly still in the hopes that he won’t be spotted.

Unsurprisingly, the picture had people all around the world in stitches, and it had soon reached over 3.2k reacts as well as over a thousand shares.

The caption, translated from Thai, read: “Keep calm. Officers will see. Let’s continue eating sugarcane,” and people took to the comments of the picture to share their thoughts on the ‘sneaky’ elephant.

“Which baby elephant? There is only a wooden post in your picture.” (Now that we think about it, we can’t see the elephant either!)

“Awe, but where mama? Cause she’d gonna break you and smush you for scaring her little one.” (Doubtful, as elephants are actually really calm and gentle creatures. The mom would be more likely to come up and say a friendly hello.)

“Where is it?” (Can anyone else see him?)

“Can we talk about it? The elephant in the room?” (Now this is a clever one. Though technically, the elephant is in the sugar cane field.)

“It’s a well known fact that elephants are excellent at hiding in trees. Think about it, how many elephants have you seen in trees?” (They have a very good point here. We’re sure that there’s not many people out there who have seen an elephant amongst some trees!)

These are some pretty hilarious responses! Did you spot the elephant? We think he did a great job of hiding.
