One woman’s discovery about a stray cat turned into an experience she’ll never forget.

Shea Prior from Irvington, Alabama saw a beautiful stray cat in her yard a few months back. The cat eventually became comfortable enough to approach, and she happily began feeding her.

Shea decided to pick up the homeless animal after several days of giving her food. That’s when she realized she was producing milk – meaning she wasn’t alone.

Shea told The Dodo:

“I was petting her and went to pick her up and that’s when I realized she had milk in and had been nursing some babies.”

Naturally, Shea was curious where the little kittens were. So she asked her new feline friend to lead her there.

She explained online:

“I started telling her to show me to her babies, and that I bet her babies were so pretty. All the while she’s just croaking away (because she can’t meow, she just croaks for some reason haha).”

The next evening, Shea’s wish came true when she went into her yard to do some watering. The mama cat ran up and led her over to the shed – where there were five adorable babies hiding underneath!

They got to meet the kind-hearted woman who was caring for their mama.

According to Bored Panda, the kittens were too nervous at first to come out. But their mom laid on her side calling to them, and eventually, they became comfortable enough to leave their hiding spot.

“One of the little gray ones was super brave and came up to me with his little pointy tail held up high in the air and let me pet him immediately. Eventually, after about 10 to 15 minutes, they had all come up to me and let me hold them and pet them.”

Shea wanted to help out both the mom cat and her kittens.

At first, she brought the entire family into her house and set them up with a comfy spot in her bathroom. Shea decided to give the mama cat the name Cricket because of the funny meowing sounds she’d make. She also made plans to adopt Cricket – then find loving homes for the babies.

But in order to be able to get veterinary care for Cricket, Shea needed a little help herself.

Like many others, Shea lost her job because of the coronavirus situation. So, she created a GoFundMe page in the hopes she could raise donations for Cricket’s vet bills, including shots, and to have her spayed.

A sweet story with an even happier ending.

Not only did Shea adopt Cricket, but she successfully found families for all of the babies as well. She also managed to raise enough money for her new pet’s vet bills, thanks to people’s kindness!

Shea shared the following update on GoFundMe:

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated so far. I never thought we would get so much attention and that our goal would be reached so quickly! All 5 sweet babies have gone to their furever homes, and mama Cricket has an appointment for the vet on Thursday. Remaining funds and additional donations will be going to Save A Stray to help additional strays just like my Cricket. Thank you all again so much!!”

Several days later there was an additional update on Facebook. Cricket was back home and “doing great” after being spayed, and was given a “clean bill of health!”
