Layla was found in a busy street last summer, according to her rescuers soon to be hit, and she was taken to Beaumont Animal Care in Texas.

The 7-month-old pup was frail and shy at first, but when it realized everyone at the shelter were so nice to her and wanted to take care of her, she relaxed and soon became so happy that she flashed them a smile!

“When I began to speak in a baby talk kind of voice she absolutely loved it,” tech Rachel Barron told The Dodo. “[She] began wagging her tail and then boom, the famous smile. That is when I pulled out my phone to get it on video. It was too cute not to share.”

After the staff had taken care of her, she was ready to be adopted. Thanks to the video posted by Barron, there were many aspiring adoptive parents for the puppy, because her smile had already melted hearts!

Two of them were Nicole Toney and her husband, who immediately expressed their interest in adopting little Layla.

The couple was already familiar with what it means to have rescues at home since they already owned three rescue dogs and a cat.

“I was like ‘OMG this dog is so precious! I’m coming home with this dog tomorrow,” Nicole told The Dodo. “I walked in and I was like ‘Can I see the smiling dog?'”

After their first encounter, everything just worked itself out for them. Layla, although shy at first, didn’t mind Nicole’s cuddles and she soon felt comfortable in her arms. After a few meetings, the staff decided that it was safe for Layla to go home with the couple.

Going to her new home didn’t only mean that Layla would have to adjust to the new environment, but she also had to live together with five more animals. But, as you may imagine, it wasn’t that difficult.

Nicole and her husband introduced Layla to the family members one by one. They let them sniff each other and take their time until they felt comfortable around each other.

Lady, one of the couple’s dogs, was immediately drawn to Layla since she had just given birth when she was rescued- and for some reason, Layla was drawn to her too.

Sadie, one of the other dogs, wasn’t very happy with the new addition to the family at first. In fact, they ignored each other, until a few days later, they started hanging out together and, later on, they started doing everything together and became best friends.

Soon enough, all animals got used to the new family member and they were all happy with the new situation.

Now, only six months later, Layla is not the little puppy anymore. She’s already a big dog, but she hasn’t lost her signature smile. She still flashes it and warms the hearts of everyone around her.
