Man Attempts To Rescue Beached Great White Shark
This is so harrowing to watch.

The infamous great white shark has been the stuff of marine-based nightmares since people first dipped their toes into their waters. Who has ever stepped foot into the ocean without at least a flicker of fear that beneath those waves may be a deadly killer.

You have to be brave to swim in shark infested waters, but what happens when they come on to our turf?

One video features a man brave enough to do something about it!

Crikey, is that a beached shark?

You bet it is. Judging by the accents, we’re in Australia, and judging by the shark on the beach, something is amiss. It seems as if this baby great white has swum a little too far from home. Normally, an incident like this would mean that the shark is going to suffocate and die.

But luckily for this poor fish, there was a brave Aussie who decided to step in…into the ocean!

As the man struggles to keep hold of the shark’s tail, he loses his grip.

This man is brave. It takes serious backbone to even go near a shark as big as this, let alone to touch it, let alone to attempt to help it. As it turns out, great whites beaching themselves is actually pretty rare. A shark expert at the Florida Museum of Natural History by the name of George Burgess told Live Science:

“Great whites rarely wash up on beaches because they typically live in the open water, far away from the coast.”

Maybe this baby was swimming too shallow for its own good.

As the heroic Aussie tries to get the shark back under his control, it continues to writhe around, resisting his help. As if grabbing the tail of an agitated shark isn’t daunting enough, try doing it while it’s reaching around to bite you!

Once again grabbing hold of the tail, our mate begins to drag the shark into the wake.

Unable to reach around while being dragged backwards, the shark resigns itself to its fate. What it may not know, is that this person is actually trying to help it.

Some of the comments pick up on the method to his madness.

“This guy is not only brave, he is also smart. When he dragged the shark into the water, he made sure he didn’t let go of the tail until he was nearer to the shore than the shark. This guy knows what he is doing.”-Ardent Fan

Uh oh, don’t let him get away!

Well, I suppose the idea is to set it free, but maybe so that it can sim away rather than toward you.

That’s the trick!

Our guy reigns the shark back in again, and once again attempts to pull it back into the deeper water where it can swim away.

And at last, it can scoot away!

At last, the shark begins to swim away from its rescuer. The problem is, this shark is so exhausted from being stranded on the beach, that swimming away to safer waters isn’t going to be quite so easy…

The water pulls it back toward the land.

Will the shark be able to free itself from the relentless waves? It seems like the longer this shark struggles, the more exhausted it becomes and the harder it becomes to swim away.

At long last, it pushes past the oppressive wake.

As their dog watches on, and the kids scream after it to not follow the shark, their adventure comes to an end. Watching this brave man pull a stranded shark back into the ocean is possibly one of the most harrowing things I’ve ever experienced.

Some viewers however are also able to see the humor in this situation.

“If you watch this video backwards it’s about a guy who marches into the ocean, snatches a great white shark, and drags it onto the beach”-Southern B
