Family compelled to post note to neighbors with explanation about dog on their roof
As one can imagine the sight of a dog on a roof caused a lot of attention in the neighborhood.

Walking down a neighborhood street, you might expect to see a few things. Sights like kids running in the grass and shrieking, sprinklers watering grass, and mail trucks delivering that day’s mail. What you might not expect, however, is a dog sitting on a roof watching you.

A dog calmly staring at you from a roof would probably make you think that your brunch mimosas were WAY stronger than you thought.

Your next steps? Well, most people would walk over to the house that had a dog on the roof and warn the homeowners that something was seriously amiss. Funny enough, that was the exact thing that happened when a golden retriever was seen sitting on a roof.

Huckleberry is a good boi, but he apparently has a habit of getting onto the roof!

More than just a good boi, Huckleberry is a smart boy. He had taught himself that he could get on the roof from a particular spot in the backyard, causing the neighborhood quite a bit of panic.

Anyone walking by who saw him kept knocking on the door.

They just thought they were doing a good thing, but the family that owned Huckleberry was getting tired of people warning them! If he was outside for any length of time, he was going to end up on the roof. He knew how to get down, too, so they didn’t really see it as much of a problem.

It became such a problem that they even decided to post a letter outside their door so people stopped knocking!

To have enough people knock to cause a sign to be put up is quite hilarious. Here’s the first part of the sign they put up:

“Huckleberry is living up to his name and learned how to jump onto our roof from the backyard. We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball!”

From what we can see, he’s earned the name for himself splendidly!

He seems to be pretty happy up there and if his owners don’t mind it, why should others?

It may seem funny to us, but for a dog, it’s probably a great way to keep an eye on his “territory” and see if any cats try and intrude. Even more, Huckleberry has apparently LEPT from the roof for food or a ball? That’s one adrenaline junky of a dog.

The owners have put up a hashtag for anyone who wants to post pictures of him!

“We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door… we know he’s up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world! #hucktheroofdog.”

It is totally worth it to check out the hashtag if you can – we all need more pictures of Huck on the roof. If you still want MORE pictures of dogs on things, there is even a subreddit devoted to it named r/dogsonroofs! Check that out here.
