A soldier’s commitment and service are reflections of love for country. Apart from the courage it takes to reach the decision to join the military, risks are taken and sacrifices are made such as putting one’s life on the line, living away from family and loved ones, and missing important family milestones. It takes a strong individual to stick it out and survive the required number of years for first-time enlistment.
Fortunately, there are always opportunities to reunite with one’s family and friends again.
And it is usually in these heartwarming reunions where emotions are heightened, just like what happened when this soldier and his pet dog saw each other again. While we’re positive the soldier was eagerly anticipating seeing his family and friends again, there’s no denying he showed unexplainable joy the minute he realized his furry best friend was waiting for him.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Brent shares how his dog made his deployment homecoming extra special.
The unsuspecting soldier was just chatting with his friend as they walked along the airport when he was met with the nicest, warmest, welcome-home surprise: a happy dog overcome with excitement at seeing him again, armed with energy and plenty of sloppy kisses.
You’ve seen videos of kids being surprised by their moms, dads, brothers, and sisters after years of being away on service, but there’s nothing as delightful as seeing an overjoyed pet run into his best friend’s arms. Brent’s folks really went out of their way to make his homecoming special, even going as far as finding ways for airport staff to give their approval on having a dog in the waiting area with them.
The minute Brent spotted his dog on a leash, his face lit up.
They pulled off the surprise and couldn’t help but gush as they watched the two. The soldier and his pet were all over each other, the dog wagging its tail the entire time.
As Brent crouched, his dog immediately ran to him and in a matter of seconds was showering him with kisses. Brent was happy to be home but someone was even happier that he was back. Clearly overcome with happiness, the dog would jump up and lick Brent’s face, circle him, and go back to kissing him.
It’s pretty obvious what these two have transcends the simple man-and-dog relationship. Their friendship clearly runs deep. After all, it was the best surprise the soldier’s parents could think of for their son’s homecoming.
The huge grin on Brent’s face said it all.
His dog’s presence in the airport was definitely the cherry on top. After all, how many soldiers are given the chance to once again come home to their families? Let’s not forget the blessing of a safe landing, too.
Even the soldier’s companion couldn’t resist the charming dog, who in turn gamely sniffed his hand before running back to the arms of his best friend.
Passersby couldn’t help but smile at the sight of two best friends meeting again. Never mind that the soldier was kneeling in the middle of a busy airport, his things strewn around him. What mattered was he was home safe, and his best companion had him again.
Arriving home safely may be the ultimate blessing, but so is having someone to come home to.
