Dogs are such funny animals. On one hand, you can predict a lot of things they do. On the other hand, they’re full of surprises. That combination is just one of the many reasons we love our pups so much. Another reason — they’re loyal to a fault. If you’re a good pet owner, your dog will be your faithful friend.
For one man, it was the unexpected that made him realize his dog would always be loyal…no matter what. Fortunately, the incident was captured on video and shared on social media. We get to see a funny, yet heartwarming event that took place.
Stuck in the hospital
If you’ve ever been admitted into the hospital, you know it doesn’t take any time at all before you start missing your furry friends. But what you may not realize is they miss just as much, if not more. After a long hospital stay, he finally received news that he could go home.
He anticipated a warm greeting from his dog
You know, dogs have amazing memories. But after such a long time, what happened when returning home wasn’t what this guy anticipated happening. In his mind, his beloved pet would jump all over him while smothering his face with kisses. But, that’s not the scene that played out.
Setting up the surprise
As a way of surprising both the man and his Pit Bull, the family had him sit down on a bench in the backyard. He had his back turned toward the area where the pup was. He tries to sit patiently with his hands closed tightly in his lap. Any minute now and he’d be reunited with his best friend.
Who’s this stranger?
They start calling the dog but instead of running, he crept slowly in his owner’s direction. Then, he did something completely out of character. He began barking, unaware of who this person was. To put the pup at ease, the man turns around and lovingly calls his name. But that didn’t make any difference.
His barks sounded almost aggressive
The dog moved around to the other side of the bench, still barking. And, it wasn’t a friendly bark but one that sounded more aggressive. It was as though he was trying to protect family and property. Even so, the man didn’t give up.
The dog becomes a little braver
The man keeps calling the dog and then, he moves in closer to sniff him. That’s when it happened. It was like a lightbulb went off in the pup’s head. He knew this man and boy did he show it. The dog jumps into his owner’s lap, doing exactly what he’d dreamed of happening. Once the pup recognized the “stranger,” he went crazy…in a good way.
What a beautiful reunion
For a few minutes, things were a little intense. But not anymore. The dog was so excited, he didn’t know what to do with himself. He jumped, wagged his tail, gave lots of kisses, and then did it all over again. I’m sure at this point, the man’s heart melted. He was so relieved that his friend knew who he was.
It’s then that the man’s dog started running around the backyard. He couldn’t contain himself. While there’s no update on how the two are doing, I have a feeling their bond is stronger than ever.
