Dash cams have totally changed the game for drivers around the world. With these little gadgets installed on our dashboards, we can keep an eye on other drivers and have video evidence of crashes, accidents, bad driving, road rage, and all kinds of other unexpected incidents.
It’s amazing to see all the crazy clips that have been captured on dash cams over the years since they were invented, and this might be one of the most stunning videos of them all!
A driver was casually rolling along a Tennessee highway with their dash cam running, observing the other vehicles ahead. Suddenly, it captured the shocking moment a deer ran out from the side of the road, sprinted across the highway, and leaped right over the car in front!
It’s definitely one of those ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moments, and the dash cam doesn’t have the sharpest resolution, so we can’t really make out any detail of the deer. It looks more like a ghost or shadow, appearing on the left side of the frame, speeding across to the right, and then leaping over the car and away into the wilderness on the other side.
As the deer appears, we can see the car up ahead apply its brakes and swerve slightly as the driver spots the deer heading towards him and tries to take some kind of evasive action.
That was the right thing to do, but in the end, the deer proved to have some very skilful evasive maneuvers of its own! Deer are well known for their running and jumping abilities, but this one deserves a spot on the Olympic team after such an amazing leap.
It’s a sad fact that an awful lot of animals get run over or cause accidents on our roads and highways, with some estimates suggesting that around a million animals of all shapes and sizes are killed on roads in the United States each and every day!
Over time, it seems like some animals have started to adapt, understanding that roads are dangerous places and only crossing when they think it’s safe. But there are still clearly many cases of animals stepping out in front of cars without really knowing the danger they’re in.
This deer chose a bad time to make his sprint from one side to the other, as the road was busy at the time, but he knew he had the skills to pull it off, leaping gracefully over the vehicle and landing safely on the other side.
He almost looks like a reindeer, floating in mid-air, ready to take flight, and it must have been quite a shock for the driver to see a deer disappearing over the roof of their car like that, but we’re very glad the animal made it across safely and nobody got hurt in the process.
